Bernard J.(Smitty) Smithberger, 81, passed away Sunday, November 1,2009 at Trinity West Hospital,
Steubenville O.H.  

He was born February 12, 1928 in Marietta O.H., a son of the late, Orlando Smithberger and Meda Gerber.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Smithberger,; one daughter, Alma Jean
Smithberger,; one step-son, Alan Heiss,; one brother, Charles Smithberger and a sister Edith Charleston.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Mary (Schwendeman) Smithberger of Wintersville; two step-sons,
Don Heiss of Wintersville, O.H.; Michael(Amy) Heiss of Toronto, O.H.; one step-daughter, Beth(Phil) Kendzierski of
Moundsville, W.V.; one sister, Mary Ulmer of Marietta, O.H. ; 6 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.


Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2009 from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm at CARE Funeral & Cremation Service 1500
Second Street Moundsville WV.  A vigil will held at 7pm in the Care Chapel with Father Edward Stafford officiating.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 10a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Parish,
Moundsville with Father Terrance Adams as celebrant. Interment will follow in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens,
Sherrard, WV.

Military graveside rates will be conducted by the Moundsville Honor Guard.

Robert I. Duffy, Sr., 65, of Moundsville, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Home.

He was born February 13, 1944 in Marshall Co., WV the son of the late Ira W. Duffy and Freda Virginia Thomas
Duffy.

Robert was an electrician and worked in the coal industry for many years, he was a member of the Moundsville
Eagles, the Moundsville American Legion, the Moundsville V.F.W. and the Moundsville Moose Lodge.  He enjoyed
camping in his spare time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Billy Leeland Duffy.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn L. Baker Duffy of Moundsville; a son Robert Duffy Jr. and his wife Shelly of
Moundsville; a daughter Vonnie Finnegan and her husband Tom of Moundsville; 2 sisters, Virginia Conner of
Moundsville and Betty Duffy of Sarasota Fl; a brother John Duffy and his wife Linda of Moundsville; numerous
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family

Alberta “Polly” Blake, 54, of Moundsville WV, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Liza’s Place,
Valley Hospice, Wheeling, WV.

She was a beloved mother and best friend.

She was born March 18, 1955 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Kathleen Hackney Evans of Wheeling, WV and
the Late John Harold Evans.

She was the former owner of “Cheers” on Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville, WV.

In addition to her mother she is survived by a son Thomas Layman, Jr. and his wife Tiffany of Moundsville; three
grand-daughters Gwenyth, Isabel and Juliet Layman of Moundsville; two brothers Mike (Donna) Evans of
Moundsville and Carl Evans of Wheeling, WV; a sister Caroline  Evans of Wheeling, WV; her cat Roxie; and
several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at later date.

Joseph Scalise, Jr. of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Monday morning November 10th at Trinity East Hospice
Care Center.  He was 83 years old.

He was the former Senior VP of Industrial Relations at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Mona Scalise; a sister Joan Rich; three daughters Debbie Scalise, Cheryl (Doug)
Harris and Melissa (Rick) DiCarlo; two sons John (Jackie) Crow and David (Kari) Crow.  He has nine grandchildren
Colin and Kelsey Harris; Devin and Micah DiCarlo; Eli and Alyssa Crow; and Sabrina, David Jr. and Christopher
Crow.

A private service will be held on Saturday November 14th at 11:00 a.m.

Donald E. Ruch, 78, of Bethlehem, WV,  passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Liza’s Place,
Valley Hospice, in Wheeling, WV.

He was born March 25, 1931 in Wheeling, WV the son of the late Bert and Irene Heath Ruch.

He was the owner of Don’s Sunoco Station which was located on the corner of 1st Street and Cedar Avenue in
Moundsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Adele “Boots” Bryan Ruch and his brother Bert
Ruch.

He is survived by his 3 sons; Don (Diana) Ruch, Jr. of Bethlehem, WV, Rick (Anna Belle) Ruch of Houston, TX
and Terry (Tina) Ruch of Mounsdville; his daughter Christy (Jim) Buzzard of Moundsville; His grandchildren; Alicia
(Shawn) Martin of Moundsville, Sybil (Shane) Ott of Moundsville, Eric Buzzard of McMechen, Michael Paul (Erica)
Ruch of Boston, MA, Jessica (Jason) Lightle, of FL , Kaylee Ruch of Moundsville and Jason Roberts of
Moundsville; and 3 great-grandchildren of Moundsville.

Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery and will be privately held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don’s name to Liza’s Place – Valley Hospice Health Center South,
308 Mt. St. Joseph Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.

Kathryn Elizabeth (Ott) Douglas, 56 of Moundsville, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009, at Bishop
Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling W.V.  

She was born December 7, 1954 in Glen Dale W.V., the daughter of the late Norval and Rita (Lemons) Ott.

Kathy was a graduate of John Marshall High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Douglas and her daughter Hope Lorraine.

Surviving are sister; Delores Ott, brothers; Norval(Linda)Ott and Francis(Anita) Ott, children;Christy Murphy,
Christopher Clark, Okey Gilbert and a special friend Shelia Crow and her family. A niece, several nephews, aunts,
uncle and numerous cousins.
