George Bruce “Honk” Hulse

February 19, 1933 - April 7, 2017

George Bruce “Honk” Hulse, 84, of East Liverpool passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday April 7, 2017 at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh after a courageous battle that began in February.

George was born on February 19, 1933 in Chester WV a son of the late George F. and Olive (Daniels) Hulse.

Having lived all his life in the area, George was a graduate of Chester High School Class of 1952. He attended Westminster College on a basketball scholarship prior to joining the Army.  George served from 1953-55 during the Korean conflict. He retired after 39 years from Ohio Bell/Ameritech as an Inside repairman and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge #22 in New Cumberland.

George is survived by his wife: Mary (Crawford) Hulse whom he married September 27, 1957: a son: David Hulse and his wife Amy of Pataskala OH; two daughters: Pamela Kiger and her husband Jay of East Liverpool and Amy DeFilippo and her husband Jeff of East Liverpool; a sister: Eleanor Mosser of Roanoke VA; seven beloved grandchildren: Katie Kiger, Kelly Kiger, Jon DeFilippo, Joe DeFilippo, Megan Culp and her husband Jeff, David Hulse II and Jacob Hulse, a great grandchild Aiden Hulse; a God Daughter: Sara Geisse and  a God Son and nephew: Lennie Mosser

George loved spending time with his beloved family and friends.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Tuesday April 11, 2017 at 5 pm with Pastor John Smith officiating. The Masonic Lodge #25 of New Cumberland WV will hold Masonic services and The Tri State Veterans Burial Group will accord Military Honors.

Family will be present to receive friends from 12pm up until the time of service at 5.

It was per George’s wishes that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Veterans Moving Forward which provides service dogs to veterans with physical and or mental health challenges.
