John Raymond “Red” Williams, age 93, of Wellsville, Ohio died at his home on Sunday, September 17, 2017 with his family by his side.
John was born on January 3, 1924 in Rhinards Mills, Monroe County, Ohio. He was the eldest son of the late Richard and Nora (Moore) Williams and lived most of his life in this area. He was raised in the Rural District and graduated from the Graysville High School. Upon graduation John was employed at the Crucible Steel Mill until he was inducted into the Army Air Corp on March 11, 1943 and served until May 22, 1946. He honorbly served overseas and was awarded various ribbons and medals. John returned to this area and went back to work at Crucible Steel until retiring in 1982 after 41 years. He supplemented his income doing home construction through the years.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Bette Marie (Slonaker) Williams and a grandson, T.J. Kinsey.
He is survived by five daughters; Sue (Paul) Rentz of Youngstown, Oh., Deborah Lane, of Youngstown, Oh. Peggy Horoszko,of Lisbon,Ohio, Melodea (Bama) Murphy of Wellsville, Ohio and Molly Williams of East Liverpool, Ohio Two Sons; Timothy ( (Theresa) Williams of East Liverpool, Ohio and John R. Williams Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio and a grandson, Cody Williams, who lived with him for several years.
He will also be sadly missed by seven additional grandchildren; Scott Rentz, Babetta Lane, Keith Rentz, Jaime Horoszko, Danielle Harris, Candi Williams, and Kristen Williams, five great grandchildren, a sister, Kate Venham of Marietta,Ohio and his faithful companion, his golden retriever, Hank.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Friday. September 22, 2017 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Ted Barnes of the Madison Trinity Church officiating, Burial will follow in the Lisbon Cemetery where the Tri-Sate Burial Group will offer full military honors.
Friends may call and visit with family on Thursday at the Calcutta funeral home from 4 to 6 PM and one hour prior to services on Friday.
