Marcella Barkes

Marcella Barkes, age 84, of East Liverpool passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the East Liverpool City Hospital after an extended illness.

Born in New Martinsville, W.Va. on November 22, 1932, Ms. Barkes was the daughter of the late Oliver and Lillian (Deiterich) Barkes. She had lived most of her life in the East Liverpool area and had been employed at East Liverpool City Hospital as a patient attendant for over 40 years.

Survivors include, her daughter, Connie M. Neal and her husband, Collin, of East Liverpool, a grand daughter, Michelle M. Chafins, of East Liverpool, a former son in law, Mark Chafins of East Liverpool, three great grandchildren, Chandler Chafins, Damon Chafins and Olivia Chafins all of East Liverpool. One brother, Warren Barkes of New Martinsville, W.Va., two sisters, Pauline Fair of Navarre, Ohio, and Louise Reed of Canton, Ohio.

She is also survived by two very special friends, Sarah Wilson of East Liverpool and Jean Cozma of Industry, Pa.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Barkes was preceded in death by a brother, Loman Barkes, and three sisters, Dorothy Frayer, Jessie Yonnayon, and Ruth Barnett.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of East Liverpool City Hospital for their outstanding care and friendship during Marcella’s illness.

As per Ms. Barkes’ request there are no calling hours or services at this time. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements and care have been entrusted to the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes in Calcutta.
