Marvin “Cork” Mays, age 83, passed away at The Orchards of East Liverpool on Sunday, August 29, 2021, following a lengthy illness.
Born in East Liverpool on November 18, 1937, Cork was the son of the late Everett and Margaret (Williams) Mays and lived his entire life here. A graduate of East Liverpool High School, Class of 1955, Cork was a self-employed contractor and a member of the Carpenter’s Local #171 for 50 years. He retired in 1999.
During his retirement he enjoyed traveling, tending to his animals and gardens, and fishing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy (Rutter) Mays, his son, Todd (Robin) Mays of Lisbon and daughter, Sherri Mixter of Columbus, Ohio. Three grandchildren, Dylan Mays and his companion, Natalie Clutter, of Lisbon, Janee’ Mays and her husband, Luke Kelm, of Columbus, and Amanda Mixter of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, Cork was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Thomas Mixter and three brothers, Carl E. Mays, Bruce E. Mays and Michael E. Mays.
An open memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at The Martin Chapel of Care Funeral and Cremation Specialist in Calcutta. Fr. Steven McKeown of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Stubenville, Ohio will officiate.
Friends may call and visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice, the staff at the Truman House, and all of the wonderful staff at The Orchards who ensured that Cork’s last days were as peaceful as possible.
