Raymond Eugene Thornton, 72, of Shadyside, OH, formerly of McMechen, WV, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Shadyside Care Center, OH.
Raymond was born July 7, 1943 in Glen Dale, WV the son of the late Eugene and Bertha (Millhouse) Thornton.
He was a graduate of Union High School, retired coal miner for Consol Energy, an US Army Veteran, former Little League baseball coach and an avid fan of the NY Jets,WVU Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Pirates and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, James and Bob Weekly and sister, Mary Etta Shepherd.
Raymond is survived by his two sons, Eric (Michelle) Thornton of McMechen and Chad (Tracy Cutlip) of Moundsville, WV; former wife & friend, Susan Thornton of Moundsville and four grandchildren, Hannah, Olivia, Brody and IsaBella Thornton.
Friends will be received Monday, March 28, 2016 for a memorial gathering from 5pm until the time of Raymond’s memorial service at 7pm, at CARE Funeral and & Cremation Service, 1500 Second Street, Moundsville with Pastor John Keener officiating.
