Richard Earl South, 74, of Moundsville, WV. It is with great sadness we announce Richard’s passing on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at home.
He was born March 12, 1947, in Moundsville, a son of the late Herbert B. and Nellie C. (West) South. Richard was a Christian by faith and a proud US Army Veteran, serving 2 tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 437 and the American Legion Post 3. He was an avid outdoorsman and a talented painter, woodworker and gardener.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, James T. South and William P. South Sr.
Richard is survived by three siblings, Nellie C. Shipley of Savannah, GA, Norman South of Clarksville, TN and Dorris J. (Rick) Ford of Randolph, NY; nine nieces and nephews, Diana Gallovitch, Brian South, Crystal Mesecke, William P. South Jr., Kevin L. South, Rodney South, May Nolte, Jonette Muntz and Cindy Peterson.
The family would like to thank the staff from Valley Hospice for all of their care and support, including nurses Jackie and Trisha and his social worker, Paul.
Family and friends will be received Friday, July 9, 2021 from 10 am until time of services at 12 pm, at CARE Funeral and Cremation Services, 1500 Second St. with Pastor William P. South Jr. Interment and military honors will be held at Limestone Cemetery.
