‘Together Again’

Ruth N. Hunter Weekley, age 94, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020, at Calcutta Health Care Center after an extended illness.

Born in Wellsville on September 22, 1925, Mrs. Weekley was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Isabel (Des Riveries) Hunter and had lived her entire life in this area. Graduating from Wellsville High School, class of 1944, she worked as a welder at Curtiss Wright in Beaver, PA, a local “Rosie the Riveter”. Following the war, Ruth worked as a nurses’ aid at East Liverpool City Hospital, and was last employed in the meat department at Frank Wilson’s Grocery Store, retiring in 1965.

She was a member of the Wellsville Historical Society, Friends of the Old Fire Station and the Church of Ascension in Wellsville. She was also a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester. Mrs. Weekley was an avid fan of the Wellsville Tigers, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ruth and Skeeter proudly visited all fifty states. They traveled throughout North America in their RV and also traveled abroad with a group of their friends.

She was preceded in death on February 3, 2013 by her husband, Jack “Skeeter” Weekley, who she married on February 23, 1944.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Weekley, was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey M. Weekley; one brother, Glenn Hunter; three sisters, Bobbie Loveland, Shirley Lanam, and Stephanie Hunter; and her in-laws, Ottis and Viola Weekley.

Survivors include her daughter in law Linda Weekley, two grandchildren, Shelly Weekley, and Jeffrey R. Weekley and his wife Sherri all of Wellsville. Six great grandchildren, Ashton, Hunter, Caden, and Elaina Weekley and, McKenna and Kaylee Rawson all who lovingly remember her as Grandma Mousie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Jeeson Stephan of the church as celebrant. Masks and social distancing are required inside the church as protection against Covid 19.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the MacLean Chapel of the Care Funeral and Cremation Specialist in Wellsville on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 4 until 7 PM where social distancing and masks are suggested. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Wellsville Historical Society or the Wellsville Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

The family would like to thank all those at Calcutta Health Care for the exceptional care that was given to Ruth.
